SUP in Cold Weather? Why Not?

Want to keep standing up in the wet season on Kauai? There is nothing can prevent you from doing this fun thing! So, circle your calendar, and get the paddle boarding rentals. And of course, read these tips until finish.

When we said “cold weather”, we are not talking about the freezing while out paddling your board. Well, that’s not a fun thing. In tropical area like Kauai, it will be fun if you can have fun while you enjoy it wholly. With the right gear and protection, you will not go wrong!

Perhaps you are thinking about the cold weather paddling gear. Well, you don’t have to spend a fortune to purchase the new things. We guess you have certain things already in your wardrobe.

You need to be well-prepared before starting to paddle. The success key to paddle on KAuai’s water this season is to keep you comfortable and warm.

Bringing a thermos of tea can be a great idea. You could drink some while on the way, and save some for the paddling and after. The hot beverage will just be a perfect idea. Don’t forget to bring your leash, extra clothes, and so on. When you are traveling alone, make sure that someone knows your paddling plan. Leave a message in your hotel reception just in case your friends want to catch up with you. They’ll know where to hit you.

As mentioned, you will need to be prepared. That means you will need to equip your body with the right dress code. Wear the right layers so that you will stay warm to enjoy the SUP experience in Kauai. Pay attention to your head, hands, and feet too. For your hands, you might need waterproof gloves or neoprene gloves. Waterproof pants for the bottom half of your body can save you a lot of problems when paddling on the Kauai’s water. The most important thing to wear the layers is to avoid the cotton.

Whether or not you have adequate experience in SUP, you can’t go wrong with keeping the safety items at yours. Consider wearing waist pack PFD since the weather can get rough. Winds won’t tolerate your level of paddling skills. Falling can be inevitable. But if you prefer more protection, you can wear something bulkier. It is okay that way. Make sure the laesh is properly attached and secured for you. Another good idea is to attach your waterproof bag (which you have dry clothes in it) so that you can use some extra clothes if you need to add more layers or want to take the current ones off and replace them with the new layers. Plan your outing accordingly and tell the paddle boarding rentals on your route, just incase.
